Premier Racquet Club Wheelchair Classic showcases tennis talent in Markham

The Premier Racquet Club in Markham recently concluded its season with a remarkable wheelchair tennis tournament, aiming to raise awareness and promote inclusivity in the tennis community.

As the only seasonal indoor tennis and pickleball facility in Markham, operating from early October to late April, the club offers a variety of lessons, social and competitive events, and court rentals. It also plays a role in community engagement through sports.

The Premier Racquet Club Wheelchair Classic, held from April 19 to 22, attracted 37 players from eight countries — including Canada, the U.S., Brazil, and Spain — who competed to earn points toward the Paris Paralympics.

Premier Racquet Club Wheelchair Classic Results

The Premier Racquet Club Wheelchair Classic wrapped up Monday at Premier’s Markham location. The prestigious, first-ever ITF Wheelchair tournament at the club delivered thrilling matches and highlighted the extraordinary skill and athleticism of wheelchair tennis players.

Monday’s finals were also highlighted by dignitaries on hand prior to the championship matches; Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Ward Counsellor Karen Rea, OTA President and CEO Richard Mainella and Olympic Gold Medalist and former world No. 1 Daniel Nestor.

Elite wheelchair tennis competitors from around the world descended upon Canadian soil, converging at the Premier Racquet Club Markham (PRCM) for an electrifying showcase of athleticism and determination.

Racquet club promotes winter tennis memberships

The City of Markham has approved a plan to partner with Premier Racquet Club Markham owner Karl Hale to erect two, three court domes over The Markham Tennis Club currently operating as a community outdoor summer club.
